As Dr. Richard Hamlet pondered how to best support Christians who longed to make an impact for Christ at their jobs, the idea for Ministry in the Marketplace was born. The radio show started in 2014 with the goal of empowering believers to live authentically for Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit in their workplaces or circles of influence.
The program features Richard’s practical challenges and exhortations from God’s Word as it pertains to influencing others for Christ. The show also includes interviews with men and women who share their real-life stories of how they are stepping out of the box and creatively and courageously impacting their marketplaces around the world.
Thirty years ago Dr. Richard Hamlet was fresh out of college and ready to impact the business world. Armed with his degree in Business Administration, Richard began a successful fifteen-year career as an investment professional, becoming a CFP, CFA, and CPA along the way.
But in 1997, God changed everything.
At the top of his business career, Richard felt God leading him to become a pastor. During the next six years, Richard earned his mDiv from Luther Rice Seminary and served on church staffs in Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. In 2003, Richard and his wife, Ginger, felt led to begin an evangelism and gospel outreach ministry (Global Ministries Foundation) that would take them all over the world to share the gospel.
As the non-profit grew, God connected the dots between Richard’s investment career and his call to ministry. With the average employee spending 70% of their time at work, it occurred to Richard that the workplace is today’s greatest mission field for believers. As such, Richard’s desire to help equip men and women to share their faith in their places of business took root, and Ministry in the Marketplace was born.
