The Arrogant Assassin is a Christian

Or thinks he is. And that makes this a worthy case study for a Christian Newsletter.

The most troubling part about the failed assassination attempt #3 on the president is that the shooter grew up in church, has been active in church and professes to be a Christian. Let that sink in.

Now, in fairness, he professes to be a Christian while removing God entirely from his reality and putting himself in that role instead.

How does that happen?

Easier than you think.

In yesterday’s Salty Citizen post, (I write a political newsletter as well.) The Salty Citizen: The Arrogance of Assassins, we looked at Cole Allen’s manifesto.

Friends, it is so revealing. You can read it here. White House Correspondents’ Dinner Manifesto

Now, in a political column, we call it arrogance, but you and I know it is PRIDE. Idolatrous pride led an intelligent young man to believe that he was God and had the right to exercise both authority and judgment.

Here is the part I want you to see clearly:

When culture becomes our standard for truth and good, rather than God’s Word, we too, will quiet the conviction of the Holy Spirit until the only voice we hear is our own and the only truth we see is our own.

My word. My way. My will. Must be done.

There is No God

In Allen’s “Non-Biblical” worldview, the One, True God is entirely absent. His morality is totally out of alignment with God’s moral law and totally surrendered to his own.

He apologizes for minor inconveniences, deception, and disruption. He does not apologize for the murder he intends to commit or the trauma he intends to bring.

In Scripture:

  • God judges
  • God permits
  • God restrains

In these words, and actions, we see a reality where MAN, this one man, judges, permits, restrains. “I am no longer willing to permit…” Permit what? The authority God has allowed to be in place in our country to draw breath.

This shooter’s issue isn’t with Trump. It’s with God.

Let’s look at a few key statements. After a fairly thin list of apologies and then the most bizarre “Rules of Engagement,” Allen gives a series of rebuttals for the objections he anticipates will be made.

Context is king, friends. If ever you wondered how important rightly interpreting Scripture is…now you know. A man has destroyed himself and his family, traumatized thousands, and polarized a nation…in some part due to a gross misapplication of Scripture.

The first thing I notice is the classic Marxist, “Oppressor/Oppressed” language. He only sees the sins of the “Oppressor.” Thus, redefining sin. He sees the rape in detention camp, fisherman executed, the war-torn, and the young victim. But no mention of those killed by illegal aliens who have committed crimes. No mention of the countless people who’ve lost their lives to drugs pouring into an open boarder…Jews who were attacked on October 7th.

Another fairly obvious indication that he has redefined sin according to his own righteousness is the omission of his own sins from the list. The “many criminals in this administration?” Buddy, you are guilty of premeditated murder. You sailed right past “turn the other cheek,” when you ignored “Thou shalt not kill.”

But he has no guilt, because he has no sin. Because only the oppressor commits sin.

He Who Picks and Chooses, Loses

Notice how he claims “turn the other cheek” is only for personal oppression.

But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. Matthew 5:39

Friends, never mind that he totally disregarded all the words around the ones he excised from the broader context…like “eye for an eye,” or “do not resist the one who is evil.” He is also trying to make this a situational ethic, where depending on the circumstances and who the oppressor/oppressed is, maybe you shoot someone maybe you don’t. This verse is about refusing to take personal vengeance, period. Because it is the Lord’s alone.

It is about the surrendered heart’s response to ALL evil.

We could spend another 700 words on this and other points. But see this rightly: you can be this close to the truth and miss it by a mile.

He takes a command meant to restrain vengeance…and rewrites it into a permission slip for it.

Where is The Sovereign God in all of this?? Allen says a few times, “I had to because no one else was…” He doesn’t say it, but what he means is…”Not even God.” Does God not see and know? Is God not able to defend? Judge?

This is Marxism’s ultimate goal.

Remove God. Become God.

Horizontal justice warring with ZERO vertical submission to authority. Man is sovereign. Man is just. Man is righteous. Man must save.

This is what pride does.

Read your Bibles, friends.

Then obey them.

Have mercy on us all, Lord.
