A devoted grandfather is going viral for a once-in-a-lifetime gift to his grandchildren – a Bible recorded in his own voice after months of dedicated work.
Video of the grandfather presenting the gift around Christmas has circulated on social media since the holiday, showing his grandchildren opening the unique present as he looks on, explaining what they were holding. Church Leaders first reported on the video.
“That’s the Bible – the whole Bible read,” the grandfather tells them. “And also a bunch of pictures from Facebook that I posted.”
The audio Bible recordings were included on a flash drive.
“No way! You actually did it?” one of the grandchildren said, according to Church Leaders.
“Every day, I read one,” the grandfather answered. “There’s like 578 little MP3s.”
The grandfather’s project was far from an easy task. It takes at least 75 to 80 hours to read the Bible from beginning to end – no breaks – and even professional voice actors typically require two to three hours of studio time to produce one finished hour due to retakes.
Voice actor Max McLean told Crosswalk Headlines last year that recording an audio is “very time consuming.” McLean is one of the more popular voices in the audio Bible realm.
“I would probably say I would maybe spend 150 hours in the studio to get those 80 hours,” McLean said.
Of course, having a grandfather’s voice for the recording is far more personal and meaningful.
The original video of the grandfather’s gift was posted by Tiffany Shabazz.
“God is doing something right now in our family,” Shabazz said in a follow-up post, noting the family has received requests for the recordings. “He’s showing us what way to go. We are up to needing 118 copies for people all over the world. We shared one video of Grandpa giving us such a personal, meaningful gift, and now everyone wants a copy. I can’t believe how many people this has reached. God is definitely in this story.”
“This was recorded as a private family gift,” Shabazz added. “Due to many requests, we’re sharing access by donation only. Give what you feel Grandpa’s devotion deserves – everyone receives access either way.”
